C. N. R. Rao Education Foundation (registered charitable trust) was established in the year 2005 to encourage enthusiastic and talented young students taking up science subjects at undergraduate (B.Sc.) and post-graduate (M. Sc.) levels.
The Foundation also recognizes dedicated science teachers at school and pre-university levels. The Foundation is associated with various efforts to promote good quality science education.
Outstanding Science Teacher Awards (one from anywhere in India and one from Karnataka) are given annually.
The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) annual award for an outstanding scientist from a least-developed country (LDC)
National Prizes are awarded annually to scientists in selected areas.
The Science Outreach Programs (SOP) are organized and conducted twice a year at Gangolihat (Uttarakhand), School Chandan Laxmeshwar(Karnataka) and Sagar Science Forum, Sagar (Karnataka). A lecture hall has been built there for this purpose.
The Scholarship program for high school students is initiated in School Chandan Laxmeshwar funded by CNR Rao Education Foundation from the year 2020
The Student Mentoring Program (SMP) is a recent initiative of the C.N.R Rao Hall of Science and ETU. Its aim is to inculcate the habit of self-study among students and to make students self-reliant. The long-term objective is to give them an opportunity to witness how research is conducted to inspire them to take up science as a career.
